  1. For those who want to get to the root of why you overeat, you must be honest with yourself.  Seeing in black and white helps!  Biggest take home: food isn’t usually the problem! Personally, I overeat when I am really happy, really relaxed or really mindless.  WHY do you eat/overeat?
  2. SLEEP MORE! Studies show those who don’t sleep enough overeat to try to feel energetic.  Overeating simply leads to being overweight. Period.  Sleep helps prevent disruption of hormones that controls appete.
  3. PHYSICAL ACTIVITY increases the brain’s chemical pleasure receptors, i.e. endorphins. If you are overweight, is even more important to exercise because over-eaters may have less pleasure receptors.
  4. DON’T EAT 2-3 hours before bed.  If you are hungry, drink some water or tea, but know the hunger will pass.  Payoff: your fat stores will be tapped into, while sleeping.
  5. Put your FORK/KNIFE/UTENSIL down between bites. Appreciate your food.  Stop “inhaling” !  Remember this: In 20 minutes your brain will signal that you are full—no matter what you eat!!!
  6. Control your GLYCEMIA: eat every 3-4 hours. Personally I love “grazing” on nuts, yogurt or even a spoonful of peanut butter.  I hate getting hungry!
  7. Watch your PORTIONS!  This ltle piece of advise could save millions, in dollars, and lives!  STOP OVERINDULGING on food!
  8. Stop drinking diet soda.  It has been shown to create abdominal bloating.  Google for more information!
  9. Increase your veggies, whole grains and eat 4+ servings of fruits/day.
  10. Eat breakfast to increase your metabolism!
